The 1969 Boss 429 Mustang featured a large seven-liter engine, while the 302 models rather relied on a somewhat smaller five-liter engine. The 351-2V and 4V V8 engine entered the lineup for 1969. The 302-4V V8 engine and the 390-2V V8 were dropped, but the 390-4V V8 remained. There were two special engines offered for 69, the Boss 302 and the Boss 429. Both engines were only available in two limited production units, so called, the Boss 302 and the Boss 429.
After it’s time on the pump, the DZ 302 posted 357 horsepower at 6,700 rpm and 333 lb-ft of torque at 4,300 rpm. The Ford, however, made a peak horsepower number of 374 horsepower at the same 6,700 rpm as the Chevrolet, and again, had the same peak-torque RPM as the Chevy, but made slightly less peak torque, at 324 lb-ft.
